Apartment Sitting- Part 5
by RogerGirl

Tyler looked around the table at the smiling faces of everyone seated.  He began to speak, but his throat got dry and he took a sip of his beer.

"Go on son," his dad said, "what did you want to say?"

"I wanted to say," he said feeling the ring in his pocket, "Sylvia will you marry me?"

Everyone's smiles disappeared and Sylvia got up angrily and ran to the bedroom.  Jennifer gave him a disapproving look and went to the bedroom to comfort Sylvia.  Tyler was surprised most of all, however, by what his parents said next.

"How could you do that to him son?" his dad said disappointedly, "I thought we raised you better than that."

"Him?" Tyler asked in shock.

"Yes, your boyfriend Scott," his mom said, "This is not how we raised you.  We told you to be honest with yourself and others no matter what the consequences."

"You know?" Tyler asked in confusion.

"Yes," his dad said, "we found out a couple years ago.  We were shopping with Sylvia for a birthday gift for you and we spotted Scott's driver's license in her wallet.  I admit we were shocked at first, but when we realized how Scott had given up everything and had pretended to be a woman just to keep your secret safe we knew how much he really loved you.  He told us not to tell you that we found out and that he wanted to let you tell us yourself.  We're not angry that you're gay, but that you felt you had to keep it a secret from us.  We don't care if you want to keep it a secret from your friends or co-workers, but we're your family.  You shouldn't be afraid to tell us anything."

Tyler sat in his chair feeling really disappointed in himself.  He knew that was his chance to come out, but he had blown it.  Everyone had given him plenty of chances, but he had blown all of them.  Scott came out of the bedroom with Jennifer no longer dressed as Sylvia.  He was wearing a suit and had his hair in a ponytail and was carrying two suitcases.

"I'm sorry Tyler," Scott said, "but I don't think I can keep doing this.  I need to get my life back."

Scott, Jennifer, and Tyler's parents left and Tyler sat alone in his apartment.  He thought back to the day he had come over to apartment sit and how he had planned to stop living a lie after he graduated high school.  He had drifted so far from that and hadn't dressed as Tiffany in nearly a year.  He had to find a way to get Scott back, but since his parents already knew, he had to find another way.

In the next few months, Tyler resumed his normal life.  He kept trying to call Scott, but Scott refused to answer his calls.  He found out from Jennifer that Scott had cut his hair, found a new job, and was dating a woman.  Scott was honest with his new girlfriend and not only told her that he was bisexual, but also that he had dated a man for the past several years, although he kept Tyler's identity secret.  Tyler's friends and co-workers set him up with various women, but Tyler would just fake his way through his dates.  The person he really wanted was Scott.  He had to get him back and with the help of Jennifer, his parents, and Scott's parents he came up with a plan.
